In-Line Hot-Grinding & Pelletizing for Special Cable Extrusion

A closed-loop recycling system for robot drag-chain, PV DC and construction-machinery cable extrusions — turning high-value trim waste into qualified regrind pellets on site.

01 · Project Information

Special Industrial Cable Manufacturer

Customer Industry

Special-industrial-cable manufacturer, producing robot drag-chain cables, PV DC cables and weather-resistant cables for construction machinery. Products serve automation equipment, new-energy PV and mining machinery with large-volume overseas exports.

Project Background

Extrusion lines generated large volumes of trim-off waste, head material and trial-run defective cables. Cable-jacket materials are high-cost modified TPU, cross-linked polyolefin and weather-resistant TPE. Previously all plastic waste was sent to external recyclers, leading to severe loss of high-value materials. Third-party re-pellets suffered performance degradation and could not be reused for special-cable production. Overseas buyers enforced ESG, carbon-footprint and REACH audits requiring an in-plant closed-loop plastic-recycling workflow.

02 · Onsite Application Scenario

Installed Inside the Extrusion Workshop

The recycling system is installed inside the special-cable extrusion workshop and connects to waste outlets of multiple extrusion lines. It processes extrusion trim waste, head material and trial-run defective jacket cables from robot drag-chain cables, PV cables and construction-machinery cables.

Waste is ground and pelletized on site. Recycled pellets are pneumatically conveyed through sealed pipelines back to extruders for proportionate blending into cable jacket & insulation production.

03 · Customer Challenges

Pain Points of High-Value Waste Going Off-Site

Challenge 01

Special-cable jacketing materials carry high unit cost. Large volumes of extrusion trim and trial-run head waste are generated. Manual collection & off-site disposal resulted in massive material-value loss plus high labor and warehouse expenses.

Challenge 02

Externally recycled pellets lost key performance indicators including flex-resistance, UV-resistance and low-temperature tolerance. They could not be reused for finished special-industrial cables and had to be disposed at low value.

Challenge 03

Conventional open granulators easily suffered blade-wrapping from elastic TPU / TPE waste with heavy dust emission, creating poor workshop conditions and failing overseas ESG on-site audits.

Challenge 04

Overseas orders demanded complete traceable recycling documentation for carbon-footprint and REACH supplier assessments, which off-site recycling could not provide.

04 · KexLink Solution Deployment

Product Configuration & Onsite Integration

Product Configuration

✔ Elastic-material grinding unit
✔ Anti-wrap cutting assembly
✔ Dust & fume filtration / purification module
✔ Pelletizing unit
✔ Sealed pneumatic return pipeline
✔ Data-logging module

Onsite Deployment & Customization

Units connect directly to waste outlets of extrusion lines. Hot post-extrusion trim waste is fed immediately.
Shear speed and pelletizing parameters are optimized for elastic special-jacket materials such as TPU, weather-resistant TPE and polyolefin to prevent blade-wrapping and preserve original weather-resistance & flex durability.
Fully enclosed housing plus dust & fume filtration are fitted.
The system automatically logs waste input and pellet output and exports recycling reports. Recycled pellets are pneumatically sent back to extrusion lines for qualified-ratio blending into cable-jacket production.

05 · Project Results

What the Customer Gained

Lower Material Loss

High-value special-jacket waste is recycled on site, eliminating labor & warehouse costs for packing and outbound transport. Overall waste-recovery rate reaches above 94%.

Performance Retained

Recycled pellets retain key material performance and can be proportionally reused for selected special-cable jackets, cutting consumption of high-cost modified compounds.

Elastic-Material Friendly

Anti-wrap design for elastic materials plus fully enclosed structure controls dust and odor, improving workshop conditions and enabling successful overseas ESG & green-factory audits.

Audit-Ready Records

The system stores full recycling log data for customer carbon-footprint and REACH supplier documentation submission.

“Jacket compounds for robot and PV special cables are quite expensive. Extrusion trim and trial-run waste represented painful material loss. KexLink’s closed-loop recycling system is well adapted for elastic jacketing materials and solves the long-standing TPU blade-wrapping issue. Waste is converted into qualified re-pellets inside the plant, saving costly raw materials. Complete recycling records satisfy overseas customer ESG audit requirements.”
